2014: Flashback. 30:31 for my official 5k time- I took it slow because my first marathon (Steamtown Marathon) was only one week away and I was nursing a torn achilles. The first year many people had complained of long beer lines, chaos at the start line, mis-matches with pre-ordered shirt sizes (it happened to me, too- but I chose to make the best of it and put it on my running blanket! By the way, check out Project Repat if you have too many running shirts laying around! Repat is short for repatriating jobs back to the USA. The t-shirts that you buy used to all be made in the United States, but since the early 1990's big companies have chased cheap labor and lax regulations overseas, where they pay their workers less than a living wage. PR wants to turn all those t-shirts that were made overseas, into fair wage jobs here in the USA.), long food lines, no parking, etc. It was the inaugural year and it was a HUGE race! They gave us a sweet virtual swag bag, free race photos (which I believe is my all-time favorite race photo EVER!), and also a beer stein and edible cookie medal. They had authentic German food, desserts, music, and beer! I kept my "medal" and made it into an ornament. Here are some highlights from 2014's race!
As always, I was fueled by Nuun Hydration, refueled by Chocolate Milk, sported my Garmin 220, Asics sneaks, and my Momentum motivate wrap! All great companies. Big announcement: I am happy to announce that I am now an ambassador for Momentum Jewelry! I love sporting my race favorites and representing such awesome companies! Be sure to check them all out- I rep them happily for a reason!
Have you ever done a beer race? What are your thoughts? I will run for beer- and chocolate milk!
